Academic Advising: Drop-In Study Nights

I started drop-in study nights as a one-time event in Fall 2022 as a way to provide ACCESS STEM students with a little pick me up right before finals week with a quiet space and snacks. It was attended by 15+ students right before finals week and was a hit with the students so I pushed for this event to be launched out to the entire College of Science and Engineering in Spring 2022 and gained buy-in from the Dean's office to be able to do so. I also revamped and launched it as the Putting the "Pro" in Productivity Event to provide a dedicated study space that I offered office hours during to help the students feel extra motivated while feeling supported knowing that I was there for them if they needed anything. Over the course of the Spring 2022 semester, 50+ different students across various COSE majors attended drop-in nights not only to study but also sought out career advice and study tips from me. Students reported finding this event to be game changer for them because they were able to get one-on-one career help, learn about resources on-campus such as the Husky Food Pantry, and find study buddies that they otherwise would have not sought out. This was a big win for COSE as this drop-in event had one of the largest outreach to our student population post-pandemic.
